CANINE North Georgia K9 Task Force
The North Georgia K9 Task Force is maintained with grant funds awarded to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office. The counties serviced by the North Georgia K9 Task Force include Dawson, Fannin, Forsyth, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Pickens, Towns, Union, and White County. These counties represent a total service area of 2,496 square miles. According to the 2010 United States Census Bureau, these nine counties represent a total population of approximately 368,183. The availability of canine units in these areas can be remarkably limited, especially in most northern rural areas. The North Georgia K9 Task Force ensures North Georgia counties area has unlimited access to canine units regardless of economic hardship. Access to certified, well-trained canine units is an invaluable resource for the counties in this service area. In jurisdictions with narcotic detection canine teams, the North Georgia K9 Task Force routinely receives requests for assistance. The North Georgia K9 Task Force will freely assist any requesting agency with large or small scale searches.
