File Request to Expunge a Criminal Record

Expungement refers to the purging of criminal history records. O.C.G.A. §35‐3‐37(d) provides for the expungement of certain criminal history records when approved by the prosecuting attorney. GCIC cannot expunge a criminal history record without the approval of the prosecuting attorney.

HOW DO I …

Expunge a Criminal Record?

You may want to request a copy of your criminal history order to gather important information about what is on your record, including the arresting agency and arrest date. You can use our online records request form to request this information.
Any requests or applications submitted to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office for expungement processing will necessitate a $25.00 fee. This fee should be submitted as a money order or certified check payable to the “Georgia Bureau of Investigation” and must accompany the approved Request for Expungement Form provided by the prosecuting attorney. Please note that each Request Form may pertain to ONE (1) Date of Arrest, even if multiple charges were filed on that date. The fee submission to GCIC is required after the prosecutor approves the request and submits it to GCIC.

As authorized under O.C.G.A. §35-3-37(d)(1)(B), the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office requires payment of a $25.00 non-refundable fee to process an expungement request. Completed paperwork and the non-refundable processing fee must be submitted to CJIS Compliance Specialist Ashley Dean. The processing fee must be paid via certified check or money order made payable to the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office.
